Comrade Chris Isiguzo, the National President of Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) was yesterday night Thursday 7th, October 2021 sworn-in as the National President of NUJ for the second term in office at the end of the Union’s 7th National Triennial Delegate conference held at Umuahia Abia state.
Comrade Chris Isiguzo scored 665 votes to defeat his opponent Yusuf Idris who scored 15 votes as announced by Comrade Joe Ajaero, the Deputy National President Nigeria labour Congress at the Michael Okpara Auditorium Umuahia the venue of the election.
The National President after him and his other national executive members took oath of office administered by Barrister Dogwo Akaso, described his victory and that of his “greater heights team” as a vote of confidence in his leadership of the union.
Comrade Isiguzo thanked union members from all the state of the federation for not letting the union down at it’s critical moments, especially for taking the decisive decision to attend the conference inspite of ochestrated and carefully planned attempt to truncate the conference.
He dedicated his victory and that of his team to NUJ members, describing it as “a victory to the Union.”
He called for the maximum support of NUJ members to enable him and his team to take the Union to a greater height.
He equally promised that his second term in office will be better than his first term.
It will be recalled that the ex-parte order obtained by some union members in Ogun State council from the Ibadan Division of the National Industrial court of Nigeria suspending the 7th Triennial Delegates conference was vacated by the court on the 6th, October 2021, giving way for the conference to go on yesterday as planned.
