A consultant psychiatrist at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, Dr. Adeoye Oyewole, has called for collaboration among stakeholders to ensure a total reorientation of the youth.
Oyewole, who was among the panellists at an event organised by the United States Consulate General for teachers in Osogbo said the reorientation of youths would improve their mental health status.
He noted that the failure of political leadership, families and negative peer influence, amongst others had contributed to substance abuse among the youth.
Oyewole urged leaders in society and families to work towards the prevention of the youth from indulging in drugs.
He also called on the youths to be selfless and work for the betterment of Nigeria, urging them to desist from the pursuit of selfish goals in the interest of the general well-being of the populace.
“Working for society instead of pursuing selfish goals is important for our youth. Leadership, religious leaders and families must rise to the occasion and work on the youth and make them see reasons why they must remain in good mental health.
“Collaboration of all stakeholders is needed to ensure that our youth keep off drugs and remain in sound mental health,” Oyewole added.
